Use Pointer when Presenting PPT
To get a pointer while giving a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation, you have several easy options depending on your device and setup. Here’s how you can enable and use a pointer during your presentation:
🖱️ 1. Using the Built-In Pointer in PowerPoint
During Slideshow Mode:
Start your slideshow (F5 or Slide Show > From Beginning/Current Slide).
Right-click anywhere on the slide.
Go to “Pointer Options”.
Choose:
Laser Pointer
Pen
Highlighter
💡 You can also press and hold the Ctrl key and left-click + drag the mouse to use the laser pointer.
⌨️ 2. Keyboard Shortcuts for Pointer Tools
Key Action
Ctrl + Left-click (drag) Laser pointer
Ctrl + P Pen tool
Ctrl + I Highlighter
E Erase annotations
Ctrl + A Arrow (normal pointer)
🖊️ 3. Use a Stylus or Touchscreen
If you’re on a touchscreen laptop or tablet, you can use a stylus to draw or highlight directly on the slide. PowerPoint will detect touch input and show the pen tools automatically.
🖲️ 4. Use a Presenter Remote with Laser Pointer
If you're presenting live:
Use a wireless presenter (like Logitech Spotlight or any remote with a built-in laser pointer).
These devices often have:
Slide forward/back buttons
A built-in laser pointer or digital pointer (with software)
📱 5. PowerPoint Mobile App (Companion Remote)
Use your smartphone as a remote for your presentation (with pointer features) if you're presenting from a PC.
Install PowerPoint for Android or iOS.
Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi.
Control slides and sometimes use on-screen pointer from your phone.
🧽 Extra Tip:
If you annotate with a pen/highlighter during the presentation, PowerPoint may ask if you want to keep or discard the changes afterward.
